These two craters were formed in 1892 following an eruption of Mount Etna that lasted almost six months. Located north of Nicolosi, at an altitude of about 1,900 meters, they appear as two fascinating pyroclastic cones. The highest crater, called Upper Silvestri, is located at an altitude of 2020 meters, while the other, Lower Silvestri, is located at an altitude of 1886 meters. These craters are named after volcanologist Orazio Silvestri, a renowned explorer and scholar of Etna who died in 1890. During our tour, we will have the opportunity to admire these volcanic formations up close, and for trekking enthusiasts, we can also embark on an exciting hike along the surrounding trails to fully immerse ourselves in Etna's unique atmosphere.
