The solarium on Tunis Avenue “Ru Frati”
The “Sea in the City” continues to be an exciting reality even in 2023, yet there is a sea in Syracuse, many often, Syracusans, seem to forget or avoid glimpses of the sea, coves and small pearls scattered along the north coast of Syracuse, fortunately also enchanting and easily accessible places, increasingly popular especially with the many tourists visiting the city in the summer season.
In Syracuse, they are four solariums, Wooden platforms with convenient descents to the sea, positioned following the usual purpose of meeting the needs of those who prefer not to go to private beaches or bathing facilities to enjoy the sea and sunbathing, in comfort, right at their doorstep. Therefore, it is not always necessary to take the car and go to the better-known locations such as Arenella, Ognina, Fontane Bianche, or even go even more kilometers and head south to the even more picturesque locations such as
Vendicari.
Already many Syracusans, but surprisingly many foreigners, are taking advantage of these convenient and safe solariums. The first to be installed, at the end of June, was the one at Santa Lucia Landing, followed by the platform at Forte Vigliena in Ortigia, probably the best known of the solariums in Syracuse. Subsequently, facilities were placed in the area of “Ru Frati,” near Tunis Avenue, and this is in our opinion the most recommended one, given the beautiful backdrops and the view of the“Two Brothers,” very convenient to reach, many, especially foreigners, also prefer to reach it by bike. In addition, a few days ago the one in Via Luigi Cassia, at Mazzarrona, was completed, also not to be underestimated for the quality of the water and seabed in which it is located, a true oasis in a neighborhood too often unfortunately abandoned and not valued as it deserves.
Of course, it must also be said that the current solariums, with the exception of the one at the Santa Lucia Landing, are not accessible to the mobility-impaired, who due to the lack of dedicated slides and descents are often forced to go to private facilities, not exactly close to their homes. It is hoped that as soon as possible we will begin to establish more favorable and functional conditions for even the most unfortunate citizens.
Thanks to these initiatives, citizens and tourists will be able to fully enjoy the Syracuse summer by having well-equipped and convenient public solariums. In recent years, fortunately, the City of Syracuse has been devoting itself to the enhancement of the city’s marine resources, offering accessible alternatives to fully experience the charms of the sea, even within the capital city, which are not always popular with Syracusans. These initiatives promote a healthy and active lifestyle, allowing everyone to enjoy the benefits of the sea and experience an unforgettable summer in Syracuse. A small step also toward sustainability and awareness of our extraordinary territory, both coastal and marine.
